MI New York (MINY) held their nerves in a tense chase to edge past San Francisco Unicorns (SFU) by 2 wickets in the Eliminator of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025, advancing to the Challenger. After teh edge-of-your-seat thriller, New York will face Texas Super Kings for a spot in the final on July 12.

Let's take a look at how the Eliminator clash panned out at Dallas:

Boult's Late Heroics Thrust MINY's Title Hope

Chasing 132 at Dallas, MINY rode on solid starts from openers Quinton de Kock (33 off 24) and Monank Patel (33 off 32), who stitched a 43-run stand. However, a collapse triggered by SFU skipper Matthew Short (3/22) and spinner Hassan Khan (4/30) saw MINY slump from 81/2 to 108/8.

Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard fell cheaply, and a double blow in the 15th over removed Michael Bracewell and Heath Richards. With 26 needed off the final 24 balls and only two wickets in hand, the game was leaned towards the Unicorns.

However, it was Trent Boult who turned the tide in dramatic fashion. Known more for his new-ball wizardry, Boult showcased remarkable composure and clean hitting with the bat too, scoring a vital unbeaten 22 off 13 balls, including two back-to-back sixes that turned MINY's fate. Alongside Nosthush Kenjige, who held his end with 3* off 5, Boult guided MINY to victory with three balls to spare.

Unicorns Fail To Put Big Score On Board

Earlier, SFU were bundled out for 131 in 19.1 overs after being reduced to 16/5. Xavier Bartlett’s late blitz of 44 off 24 lifted them to a respectable total. Rushil Ugarkar (3/19) and Trent Boult (2/19) starred with the ball for MINY.

Despite the late fight from SFU, Boult’s unexpected heroics knocked the Unicorns out, defeating them for the first time in MLC history, sending MI New York one step closer to the MLC 2025 title.
