Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-round sensation Nitish Kumar Reddy has credited his idol, Virat Kohli, for his early success in the biggest and toughest T20 league in the world.

Every budding cricketer dreams of playing alongside their idol. Nitish’s dream of sharing the field with Virat Kohli came true when he made his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in May 2023. Although he couldn’t make an impact in that game, he proved his worth against the Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Reddy played a stunning knock for the Orange Army against a fiery PBKS bowling attack in Mullanpur when his team was struggling after losing their top players. The right-handed batter from Andhra showcased remarkable character amid tough circumstances and ended up scoring 64 off just 37 balls at a remarkable strike rate of 172.97. His crafty knock was laced with four boundaries and five maximums

“A day I’ll never forget. Having been a huge fan of Virat bhai since I was a kid, it was a surreal moment to make my debut and also get a chance to bowl to my idol. I'll remember this moment for the rest of my life! Thank you for your valuable words,”  Nitish wrote on his Instagram handle.

Reddy stepped onto the field with the scoreboard displaying 27/2. Despite limited support from Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, and Aiden Markram, SRH found themselves at 64/4. However, Reddy spearheaded his team's resurgence with an aggressive batting display. 

Thanks to his stellar performance, SRH managed to reach a commendable total of 182/9 in their 20 overs. This score proved to be enough as they successfully defended it, securing victory by a narrow margin of two runs.
