Table-toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR) are set to cross swords with the team that beat them in the 2022 IPL final, Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, on Wednesday, April 10.

Having secured four wins in as many games, the Royals have demonstrated their serious intent and contender status for the title. However, they face a formidable challenge from the Gujarat Titans (GT), a team that has not only been remarkably consistent in the past two seasons but has also exerted dominance.

Currently, the GT squad appears to lack confidence. Top players like Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan have not been at their absolute best, and the team as a whole has struggled to replicate the match-winning performances that characterized their previous seasons. Nevertheless, the Titans hold a psychological edge, having emerged victorious in four out of five encounters against the Royals, with the Royals managing only one win.

When RR Faced GT In 2023

The last meeting between the Titans and the Royals, held in Jaipur last year, was a clinical display by the Titans. After restricting the Royals to a mere 118 runs, the 2022 IPL champions effortlessly chased down the target in just 13.5 overs, with nine wickets in hand. It was a thoroughly one-sided affair, with the GT asserting dominance from the outset.

After winning the toss on their home turf, Sanju Samson decided to bowl first. RR made a solid start by scoring 50 runs, despite losing two wickets. The run-rate remained good. GT introduced spin, and within three overs, two more wickets fell, leaving RR at 77/6 inside 12 overs. After that collapse, there was no coming back, and the home side eventually reached a below-par total of 118.

Rashid Khan and his Afghan spin twin, Noor Ahmad, were the chief architects of the batting collapse, taking five wickets between them.

Easy chase for GT

Chasing a modest total, GT openers came out strong and scored at a brisk pace. Shubman Gill got out in the 10th over but not before taking his team close to the finish line. Then GT skipper Hardik Pandya came in at three and smashed a few sixes to win the game for his team.
