In a recent setback, all-rounder Nitish Reddy suffered a side strain injury during the practice session on January 24th in Chennai. As a result, he has been ruled out of the ongoing 5-match T20I series against England. Reddy will now head to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for further treatment and management.
It is also important to note that Rinku Singh has also been ruled out of the 2nd and 3rd games of the ongoing series due to low back spasm.
Reddy, who was part of the starting XI for the first T20I in Kolkata, has been sidelined due to this injury. To fill his spot, the senior selection committee has called up Shivam Dube as his replacement.
For those who may not be familiar with Dube, he was part of India's triumphant T20 World Cup squad last year and has established himself as a dynamic all-rounder. His inclusion is expected to bolster the team as they prepare for the upcoming match in the series.
In the first T20I at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, the 22-year-old did not bowl a single over and did not come out to bat. However, he was seen during the England's innings, where he picked up two crucial catches and help India win by seven wickets.
Shivam Dube's Recent Form In Ranji Trophy
While Dube’s selection highlights his capabilities, his recent performances in domestic cricket have raised some eyebrows. Playing for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 against Jammu and Kashmir, Dube had a forgettable outing, scoring a duck in both innings.
Despite this setback, the selectors have shown faith in his abilities, possibly banking on his experience and skillset in the shorter format.
India’s updated squad for the T20I series against England: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Axar Patel (VC), Sanju Samson (WK), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammad Shami, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravi Bishnoi, Washington Sundar, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Shivam Dube, Ramandeep Singh.
