The Perth Scorchers Women (PS-W) and Melbourne Stars Women (MS-W) are set for an exciting showdown in Match 3 of the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024 at the W.A.C.A. Ground, Perth. Both teams bring star-studded lineups; Beth Mooney will lead the Perth Scorchers, and Annabel Sutherland will captain Melbourne Stars.

The Scorchers had a strong campaign last season, finishing second in the league stage, only to be halted by Brisbane Heat in the Challenger. It is important to note that their regular captain Sophie Devine and India’s Hemalatha Dayalan are unavailable for this game due to an ODI series in India, they are expected to be back for the next clash against the Melbourne Renegades.

In Sophie Devine's absence, last season’s top run-scorer, Beth Mooney, will take up the captaincy for the team. Star player Amy Edgar and Chloe Ainsworth are likely expected to make their way to the squad after minor injuries. Mooney's leadership and form with the bat will be key to giving the Scorchers a strong start in this first of this season.

On the other hand, the Melbourne Stars will want to forget their last season and start fresh as they had a disappointing tournament. With Annabel Sutherland as the new captain, they’ll look to turn things around. The team have experienced players like Meg Lanning, Kim Garth, Tess Flintoff, and Sophie Day.

It is likely expected that for the first match, Marizanne Kapp, Maisy Gibson, Hasrat Gill, and Ines McKeon could also make their debuts for the Stars, adding more firepower and variety to the lineup.
