'Shame on You': Rohit Sharma Faces Backlash After Signing Autograph for Sandeep Lamichhane

Skipper Rohit Sharma is facing backlash on social media after India's Asia Cup 2023 encounter against Nepal on Monday. Sharma, who starred for India with the bat, scoring 74 off 59 in his side's 10-wicket win, was seen signing Nepal spinner Sandeep Lamichhane's jersey after the match.

In several posts on the social media platform 'X' Sharma could be seen posing with Lamichanne, who has been accused of rape.

Lamichanne is currently out on bail on charges of raping a minor in 2022, having been taken into custody as well in October.

The former Delhi Capitals bowler was released in January, and his suspension was also suspended by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) after the Supreme Court permitted Lamichanne to travel abroad in March this year.

Fans have not taken Sharma's gesture in the right spirit and called the Indian batter shameful, apart from other means of criticism.

Interestingly, during Scotland tour of Nepal in February, Scottish players refused to shake hands with Lamichanne after the conclusion of an ODI in Kirtipur.

The 23-year-old's on-field prowess cannot be questioned, given the leg-spinner is the leading wicket-taker for Nepal in international cricket, picking up 197 wickets from 95 matches.

Meanwhile, Nepal's maiden Asia Cup appearance comes to an end after the defeat against India, having already lost their opening encounter against Pakistan. Sharma will be in action, when India face arch-rivals Pakistan in Super Fours match on September 10.
