Afghanistan pacer Naveen Ul Haq is hopeful his team will be able to carry the momentum gained after a spirited campaign in the ICC World Cup 2023 into the T20I series against India and then the T20 World Cup 2024 in June in the Caribbean & USA.

The young speedster said the Afghans are determined to build on their gains after pulling off remarkable wins over Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England and Netherlands and just about missing out on a historic triumph over Australia during their third consecutive World Cup appearance in October-November.

Speaking to Times of India ahead of the T20Is versus India, their first bilateral series versus the mighty subcontinent rivals, Naveen reminded cricket lovers Afghanistan are "renowned" for their entertaining and exciting brand of cricket in the shortest format.

Naveen Backs Afghanistan For T20 World Cup

"Afghanistan are renowned for T20 cricket. Afghanistan are dominant when it comes to T20 cricket. We are high on confidence after a good show in the ODI World Cup," Naveen said. "We are sure that we will carry on the same momentum in the series (vs India) and later on in the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and US."

Historically, Afghanistan's biggest challenge was to fine-tune their game without a proper fixture list. However, with the series against Sri Lanka and Ireland also lined up in February-March after the India trip and multiple Afghanistan players part of IPL 2024 in March-May, Naveen believes they will be ripe for the challenge come the T20 World Cup.

"We have prepared ourselves really well. We are all working hard towards the goal. We have a few series before the World Cup, including the India series, and we will be ready by the time the World Cup arrives," he added.

Afghanistan are part of Group C of the 2024 edition of the biannual ICC tournament alongside hosts West Indies, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Uganda, against whom they kick off their campaign on June 3 in Guyana.

Meanwhile, after losing in Mohali, Afghanistan are trailing by 0-1 in the three-match T20I series against the Men in Blue.
