In a display of timeless brilliance, Joburg Super Kings (JSK) captain Faf du Plessis, though at the seasoned age of 39, once again showed that age is just a number when it comes to playing a sport like cricket.

The exhilarating moment unfolded during the clash against MI Cape Town in the SA20 League 2024 at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, on January 13. Du Plessis orchestrated a spectacular catch, sending the dangerous MI Cape Town batter Dewald Brevis back to the pavilion.

MI Cape Town's innings started with a bang as Rassie van der Dussen, opening the batting, notched up an impressive century. The onus then fell on Brevis, coming in at number 3 in the 16th over, to continue the aggressive approach. Aware of the deep batting lineup, Brevis aimed to take on the Joburg Super Kings bowlers from the outset.

In an ambitious attempt to loft the ball down the ground, Brevis targeted the mid-off region. However, his aspirations crumbled on the fourth delivery of the 17th over.

Brevis managed to clear mid-off but found himself caught in the web of one of the most exceptional catches in the history of the SA20 League, courtesy of Faf du Plessis. This breathtaking catch accounted for Brevis, who departed after contributing only five runs off five balls.

Having won the toss and opted to bowl first, JSK bowlers struggled against the formidable opening pair of MI Cape Town.

Van der Dussen's explosive innings, scoring 104 runs off 50 balls, laid the foundation for a historic 200-run opening partnership, the largest in SA20 history.

Ryan Rickelton, his opening partner, fell agonisingly short of a century, dismissed just a couple of runs away, as JSK's Nandre Burger took his revenge in the final over.

Despite the daunting start, Joburg Super Kings made a commendable comeback with the ball in the last five overs, restricting MI Cape Town to 243-5 in their allotted 20 overs after a rain-delayed start.
