India will face Afghanistan in the second T20I of the three-match series on Sunday (January 14) at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. The high-scoring venue plays host to the penultimate fixture of the series, which the tourists must win after the loss in the opening game in Mohali to set up a decider.

Team India will be hoping to flex its muscles past their talented but inexperienced rivals once again after pulling off a comprehensive triumph. Rohit Sharma and company stand a chance to fetch another positive series outcome in their build-up towards the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

For Afghanistan, much will depend on the Indore track as their struggling pace attack stood exposed on a flat batting surface in the last match while their much-vaunted spinners were also neutralised.

It didn't help that their batters failed to provide enough runs on the board, and they were missing spin king Rashid Khan, who was injured.

If the Afghans hope for some respite from the playing conditions to give India a stiffer challenge, they won't find any in Indore, where the pitches usually range from flat, flatter and flattest.

It's a ground renowned for prolific run-scoring and frequent boundary-hitting with an easy-paced deck and small boundary dimensions.

The Holkar Stadium has hosted three previous T20 Internationals, and only once has a team produced a score below the 150-run mark, with India posting a jaw-dropping 260/5 versus Sri Lanka standing tall as the highest score.

Dew is only going to make life tougher for the bowlers from either side since the wet ball would only skid better onto the bat and further aid stroke-making around the park. Bowlers are best advised to retain a thick skin at this venue.
