The Bangladesh cricket team has commenced its training in the UAE for their impending three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. Najmul Hossain Shanto and others were spotted training at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on November 4 as the Bangladesh team preps itself for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
As it turned out, fast bowler Nahid Rana and left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed are yet to join the Bangladesh team in the UAE, owing to complications with the visa.
Bangladesh team faces visa complications
Nahid Rana and Nasum Ahmed are yet to make their trips to the UAE owing to visa complications. As reported by Cricbuzz, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cricket operation manager Shahriar Nafees has confirmed that the two bowlers will be flying out to UAE as soon as they receive their visas.
In either case, the Bangladesh team management had not intended to use the services of the two cricketers in the first ODI match in Sharjah, according to the report.
While left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed is yet to play a single international match for Bangladesh in nearly a year, right-arm fast bowler Nahid Rana has not represented his country in white-ball cricket to date. Rana, however, has played five Tests for Bangladesh since making his international debut earlier this year in Sylhet.
Earlier this month, the BCB released a 15-member Bangladesh squad for the series against Afghanistan in UAE. Shakib Al Hasan and dashing wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das were excluded from the line-up and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz was appointed as Najmul Hossain Shanto’s deputy instead. Here is a look at Bangladesh’s entire squad for the series:
Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Zakir Hasan, Nazmul Hossain Shanto (c), Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, Tawhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali Anik, Mehidy Hassan Miraz (vc), Rishad Hossain, Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana.
The first of three ODIs against Afghanistan will be played on November 6 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The venue will also host the subsequent two ODIs on November 9 and November 11 respectively.
