Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been asked by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to undergo analysis of his bowling action. The 37-year-old was reported for having a suspect bowling action by the umpires during his 2024 County Championship stint for Surrey back in September this year.
Shakib played just one match for the cricket club between September 9 and September 12 at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton. The legendary left-arm spinner picked up nine wickets in the match after toiling away for more than 63 overs.
Shakib Al Hasan to undergo bowling analysis
As reported by ESPNCricinfo, the ECB and Shakib Al Hasan are currently in negotiating for the latter to undergo analysis of his bowling action at an approved location. Interestingly, the seasoned Bangladesh all-rounder was not no-balled at any stage of his one-off appearance for Surrey against Somerset in Taunton. However, on-field umpires Steve O'Shaughnessy and David Millns did deem his bowling action to be suspect.
It is the first instance of Shakib Al Hasan’s bowling action coming under scrutiny in the entirety of his professional career spanning two decades. The legendary Bangladesh cricketer has picked up 712 international wickets across all formats, including 246 of them in just 71 Tests at an impressive bowling average of 31.72. Shakib has also tallied nearly 15,000 runs with the bat with 14 centuries and 100 half-centuries.
He recently featured in Bangladesh’s two-match Test series against India. Playing both Tests, the 37-year-old picked up four wickets across four innings in Chennai and Kanpur.
As of now, his future with Bangladesh cricket remains in a limbo owing to his political involvement with Bangladesh’s Awami League government that was toppled earlier this year.
