In the ongoing first ODI between Australia and Pakistan at the MCG in Melbourne, the visitors had a tough time with the bat and tumbled for just 203 runs. Wickets fell at regular intervals for Pakistan, and no batter managed to cross the fifty-run mark.
It is worth noting that skipper Mohammad Rizwan was the top-scorer as he amassed 44 (71), which featured two fours and a solitary six. Other than Rizwan, Naseem Shah hogged the headlines for his batting display, as the right-arm seamer, who came to bat at No.9, scored 40 (39), which featured four and four sixes, more than other batters combined.
Naseem Shah Stuns Australia With Batting Prowess
When Shah came to bat, Pakistan were 148/7 and looked as if they would tumble for a humiliating score. However, Shah took the onus on his shoulders and smashed bowlers all across the park.
He particularly took on Adam Zampa in the 46th over of the first innings when he smashed two sixes and a four to collect 18 runs off that over. Interestingly, Shah outscored the rest of the batters, including Babar Azam, who amassed 37 (44) and struggled against Zampa, before giving him his wicket.
Shah Misses Out On A Historic Feat
It is worth noting that Naseem missed out on a historic feat as he needed just 10 runs to become the first Pakistani batter to score a fifty against Australia, batting at No. 9. Further, he would have also gone past Wasim Akram for the highest individual score by a Pakistani batter at no. 9.
At the time of writing this article, Australia are 21/1 and Shaheen Afridi has taken the first wicket for Pakistan.
