The first ODI between Pakistan and Australia is underway at the MCG stadium in Melbourne. The hosts won the toss and opted to field first. The decision turned out to be a masterstroke as the visitors lost two early wickets.

Both Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub returned to the pavilion early on, but Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam stitched a 39-run stand for the third wicket. However, ex-skipper Babar Azam, who was looking in great touch, missed out on a well-deserved fifty and fell prey to Adam Zampa.

Adam Zampa Gets Rid Of Former Pakistan Skipper

On the 4th ball of the 18th over, the ball kept low and rattled the off-stump as Babar failed to bring the bat down in time. He was stunned by the delivery, and it was followed by a new debate as to whether he could have played that ball on frontfoot rather than going on his backfoot.

Babar returned to the pavilion with 37 (44), which featured four fours. He looked in good touch as he timed all the shots and was looking to put a big total on the board.

A Series To Prove For Babar Azam

It is worth noting that this is the first ODI Pakistan are playing since their early exit from ODI World Cup 2023. Since then, Babar resigned from the post as white-ball skipper, appointed again, and resigned again because of the underwhelming performance with the bat and to focus on his batting. Also, it was for the first time in five years that Babar was clean bowled in an ODI.

Babar was recently dropped from the England Test series and this ongoing series is one to prove himself. Talking about the match, Australia are in the driver's seat as Pakistan are 72/4 after 20 overs.
