Trying to make his comeback in the ODI side, Shreyas Iyer returned from injury with a roaring century against Australia in the second game of the three-match series as he thumped an incredible 105 from 90 deliveries with three sixes and eleven fours to achieve the player of the match accolade.

Iyer, who had to deal with a plethora of injuries, expressed his relief after playing a solid knock, mentioning that it has been a rollercoaster ride for him and it is because of support received from his family that he has made his way back.

"It was a rollercoaster ride, feeling fantastic. My teammates, friends and family were there for my support. I was seeing the matches on TV, I wanted to be out there and participate in the matches. Grateful to be believing in myself."

Shreyas' knock came at a time when he needed it the most, with World Cup knocking on the doors, which meant there was extreme determination and motivation from his side to continue playing despite facing cramps and niggles today.

"The pain and niggles kept on coming, but I knew what I was aiming for. Glad that I was able to execute my plans perfectly today. Basically, when I went in to bat, I didn't want to complicate things. I wanted to get my eyes set, that's how I give confidence to myself,"

However, when he was asked the question about his batting position in the side and if he has sealed the number three spot, Iyer was quick to respond that Virat Kohli holds that position and there is no chance anyone can steal that from him.

"I am flexible, ready to bat any position, whatever my team needs to do. Virat (Kohli) is one of the greats, there's no chance of stealing that spot from him. I just need to keep scoring."

India batted first and posted 399 on the board with the help of masterful innings from Shubman Gill and Iyer, after which KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav took charge. However, in reply, the visitors were bowled out for 217 in a rain-curtailed encounter that was reduced to 33 overs.

After this incredible innings, Iyer would welcome the regular captain Rohit Sharma and Kohli into the side along with a few others for the third ODI of the series to be played on 27th October in Rajkot, which would be India's final match before the all-important World Cup.
