Former Indian cricketer Kedar Jadhav is set to open a new chapter in his life in the field of politics. The 40-year-old, who announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in June 2024 last year, will reportedly be joining the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on Tuesday, April 8.
Media reports indicate that Jadhav will be welcomed into the BJP fold in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as well as in the presence of BJP's Maharashtra state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
Kedav Jadhav to join BJP for political debut
While Kedar Jadhav is set to start his political journey with the BJP, there has been no official announcement made by either the cricketer or by the party yet. Nonetheless, report indicate that the former cricketer will be inducted into the BJP in the afternoon on April 8 by the bigwigs of Maharashtra politics.
During his playing days, Kedar Jadhav featured in 73 ODIs and nine T20I matches for Team India. The cricketer hauled over 1,500 runs across both formats, and punched out seven half-centuries and two international tons in the process.
Jadhav was part of the Indian team that lifted the 2018 Asia Cup in the UAE, where he scored crucial runs in the final against Bangladesh. Moreover, he was also a part of the Indian team that reached the finals of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy in England.
One of the defining moments of his career occurred back in early 2017, when he scored 120 from just 76 balls to help India chase down a record target against England.
In the IPL, he was a crucial member of the CSK franchise that won the 2018 edition of the tournament. Kedar Jadhav concluded his IPL journey with 95 caps across 12 seasons for five different franchises.
