Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj & Shreyas Iyer Dropped? Here's India's Playing XI Vs Sri Lanka

On Thursday, India will cross swords with Sri Lanka in the 33rd league-stage match of the ongoing World Cup on home soil. Led by Rohit Sharma, India have been absolutely ruthless in the competition, swatting aside their opponents on six consecutive occasions. On the contrary, Sri Lanka have had a roller-coaster ride in the tournament, losing four of the six matches.

While the resurgence of Mohammed Shami has given India's bowling a new shape, the consistent failures of Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj and Shreyas Iyer have definitely increased the headache of the team management.

Gill, who was expected to set the stage on fire, has managed only 103 runs at an abysmal average of 26 across four outings. More importantly, he has consistently been troubled by the pacers and could be vulnerable to Sri Lanka's rampant new ball attack, comprising Dilshan Madushanka and Kasun Rajitha.

However, the Indian team has backed Gill so far and we don't see the management dropping the stylish opener from the playing XI for the Sri Lanka game. Instead, this could be the game where Gill can take some time to regain his mojo before the all-important knockouts.

Besides Gill, Mohammed Siraj and Shreyas Iyer have also underperformed for team India in this World Cup. While Siraj has picked only six wickets in as many outings, Iyer's issues against the short ball have been well exploited by the opponents.

However, considering the Indian think tank, led by Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma, doesn't chop and change the combination too much, we don't expect them to drop these two players from the playing XI for this match. So, in all likelihood, India will be going with the same team that featured in the last game against England.

However, if, in an unlikely move, they decide to rest Iyer and Siraj, they might replace them with Ishan Kishan and Shardul Thakur, respectively. As the surface in Mumbai will likely be flat, we don't see Ravichandran Ashwin replacing any of the aforementioned players.

India's Probable Playing XI Vs Sri Lanka

Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer/Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul (WK), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj/Shardul Thakur
