Mickey Arthur, Head coach at Derbyshire Cricket Club has urged the players to produce their best in their last league game to end the 2022 season on a winning note.

The Derbyshire team have tasted success in only 13 appearances of the ongoing season and they are in sixth position on the points table. Their hopes of promotion to Division One were ended in their latest outing against Glamorgan, wherein they lost by an innings and 24 runs.

The team's final outing will be against Leicestershire at County Ground, Derby, which will be played from September 26 to 29. The Billy Goldman-led side have an upper hand over Leicestershire, as they secured a win by an innings and 24 runs in their last meeting in April.

Arthur believes that the players let themselves down after losing comprehensively to Glamorgan, and wants them to regain the edge.

Here is what Arthur said:

“I’ve said to our players, it’s not how you start, it’s how you end.

“We need to regain that edge. We’re not on holiday yet and we need to find that winning touch and go out on a high for the Members and supporters, which will give testimony to our season. We want to finish well against Leicestershire and finish as high up as possible."

The 2022 season was the first stint for Arthur as a Derbyshire head coach in the County Championship.

Under his leadership, the team has displayed a strong turnaround from securing zero wins in 2021 to harbouring hopes of promotion to Division One in 2022.
