Fast bowling all-rounder Hannah Darlington is set to miss the first half of the Women's National Cricket League (WNCL) 2022-23 and Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) 2022 due to a knee injury.

Darlington injured her knee during pre-season training in Canberra while attending the National Leadership Forum, and will undergo surgery on Monday.

She is eying a comeback to active cricket in the second half of the WBBL for Sydney Thunder, which runs until late November.

The bowling all-rounder has played 40 WBBL matches, picking up 51 wickets and accumulating 161 runs in two seasons for the Thunder in 2020-21 and 2021-22.

Darlington termed her injury a freak accident

"It was genuinely a freak accident actually. Just had a little bit of a fall while bowling, didn't actually hit the ground…in quite a lot of pain straight away. I knew something was wrong - I tried to walk it off and couldn't walk." - Darlington told cricket.com.au

The 20-year-old has played 2 One-Day Internationals and as many T20Is for Australia. Notably, she was the third Indigenous player to represent Australia Women after Faith Thomas and Ashleigh Gardner.

Earlier, she pulled out of Australia's ODI World Cup 2022 squad to take care of her mental health.
