In a big development, BCB has unveiled the 16-member squad of Bangladesh for the Asia Cup 2025. The squad would be led by Litton Das, who has been the leader of the team in the last few series, while Nurul Hasan Sohan also returns to T20Is after a three-year gap. The big exclusion, though, is of Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Bangladesh's current ODI captain, who was part of the T20I series against Pakistan.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, though, is one of the four stand-bys along with Soumya Sarkar, Tanvir Islam and fast bowler, Hasan Mahmud. The same 16-member squad will also feature in the three-match T20I series against Netherlands before the Asia Cup. The squad is a finalised version of the 25-member preliminary squad announced by Bangladesh Cricket Board on August 4.

Bangladesh Opt For X-Factor Of Nurul Hasan Over Naim

The Bangla Tigers recently won the T20I series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka and have retained most of the players who featured in those games. Mohammad Naim is one of the exclusions and in his place, Nurul Hasan has been handed a surprise comeback. The wicketkeeper batter is known for his aggressive batting and can be an x-factor in the lower middle order. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, on the other hand, is currently on a two-week break to be with his ailing wife and it probably went against him.

Overall, Litton Das, Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Emon, and Tawhid Hridoy would form the core of the middle order, while Shamim Hossain would be key with his finishing skills. On the bowling front, Hasan Mahmud has missed out, with Mustafizur Rahman all set to lead a strong pace attack.

Nasum Ahmed has made the cut as the second spinner alongside Rishad Hossain, and overall, Bangladesh have assembled a strong squad with depth in both the batting and bowling departments. The Asia Cup 2025 will start on September 9 and Bangladesh will play their first match on September 11 against Hong Kong.
