Bangladesh captain Litton Das dedicated his team’s T20I series victory over Pakistan to the victims of the Uttara plane crash tragedy. The emotional tribute came after Bangladesh secured a thrilling 8-run win in the second T20I, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series.
In the match, Bangladesh scored a modest total of 133 runs. Jaker Ali played the hero with the bat, scoring a vital 55 runs. Having the low score to defend, the bowlers delivered. Shoriful Islam picked crucial wickets and had Pakistan on 15/5.
After bowling the visitors out for 125, the hosts not only secured victory in the 2nd T20I but also won the series.
Litton Das Remembers Plane Crash Victims In Victory Speech
In the post-match interview, Bangladesh captain Litton Das remembered the Uttara plane crash victims and dedicated the series victory to those affected by the tragedy. Das added that while the void of those who lost their lives cannot be filled, the least they can do is show a nice gesture.
"This series win is fully dedicated to the victims and to their families. We know that we can't fill the void of the lives that were lost, but at least from our side, this series is dedicated to them," Das said.
The tragedy, which saw a fighter jet crash into Milestone School and College in Uttara a day earlier, has shocked the entire country. At least 31 lives were lost in the tragic accident. The sombre mood was evident even as the Bangladesh team celebrated their hard-fought win.
Before the start of play, both the Bangladesh and Pakistan teams wore black arm bands and held a minute of silence to mourn the loss of lives.
Das Praises Bangladesh’s Collective Effort In Big Win
After winning the T20I series, Bangladesh captain Litton Das praised the collective effort of the team. He also credited the bowlers for using the conditions wisely, especially when the ball was new and harder to hit. However, he admitted that fielding errors allowed Pakistan to come closer than expected.
"My team played really well. We didn't bat well in the powerplay and lost a couple of wickets. But the way Mahedi [Hasan] and Jaker batted. It's amazing to watch. When the ball was new, it was more difficult to bat on this pitch. When the ball was a little bit wet, it came on to the bat more easily. But after 12 overs, we didn't execute our plan well, and a couple of mistakes in the field cost us a bit. That's why the game went deeper than it should have," he added.
With the series already sealed, Bangladesh now has a chance to complete a clean sweep when they face Pakistan in the third T20I on Thursday, July 24.
