Mayank Yadav, a 22-year-old speedster from India, has been ruled out of the upcoming home T20I series against England due to a chronic back injury. This setback has put his possible participation in the Champions Trophy and subsequent IPL 2025 season in jeopardy.
Yadav entered the scene with a lot of hype. Having joined Lucknow Super Giants in 2022, he missed the 2023 season with a hamstring injury. However, the pacer didn’t give up and made his highly anticipated debut in the 2024 IPL season. He was an instant hit, grabbing the player of the match award while consistently clocking a speed of over 150 kmph.
However, fate had other plans for Mayank Yadav. He got injured and missed most half of the 2024 IPL season. After weeks of rehabilitation, he made his international debut against Bangladesh in the T20I series. Despite sheer pace and talent, injuries have hindered Yadav’s progress.
Mayank Yadav’s injury timeline
Shortly after a sensational international debut series, Mayank Yadav fell prey to a serious back injury. He was asked to report to the BCCI Center of Excellence and has been out of action since. The LSG star didn’t feature on the South Africa tour as the board confirmed injury being the primary reason behind his snub.
Moreover, it appears that Yadav’s back injury hasn’t healed. He has been dropped from India’s squad for the upcoming T20I series against England and is believed to remain unavailable for the Champions Trophy 2025 as well. Yadav has always been prone to injury since his childhood days. The lack of proper guidance is resulting in frequent setbacks, which is a glaring concern for Indian cricket.
Is Mayank ruled out of the IPL 2025 season?
Mayank Yadav is yet to be ruled out of the IPL 2025 season. LSG took a risky call to retain the injury-prone speedster for a whooping salary of INR 11 crore. Since the last IPL season, he has played only three T20Is. Due to the chronic back injury, he skipped the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Moreover, the pacer is not even named in the probable list for Delhi’s Ranji Trophy squad. Hence, signs are not ominous for LSG as Mayank Yadav, who was supposed to be their trump card, faces the risk of missing the entire IPL season again.
