The Bangladesh Premier League 2024-25 season has faced the scanner with match fixing allegations. As per report, the Anti corruption unit received tips of a possible match or spot fixing going on in as many as 8 games earlier.

The latest edition of BPL has faced a lot of flak over many controversies. Foreign players apparently wanted to boycott the league over non-payment of dues and salary.

Moreover, the league is believed to have been suffering from immense losses due to low crowd turnout and unnecessary spending on irrelevant matters. To add to the list of controversies, match-fixing allegations have emerged.

BCB’s ACU to probe match-fixing in BPL

The fresh controversies have been continuing to hit the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board's Anti-Corruption Unit raising the red flag over 8 matches, claiming that they suspect some cases of spot-fixing and match-fixing.

Anonymous reports, local media stories, and self-monitoring have kept the ACU focusing its attention on 10 players and four teams, which represents a grave integrity issue.

From the documents of the local ACU, it has been realised that the scandal involves six cricketers who are Bangladesh national players, two uncapped local players, and two international stars among the 10.

Among the franchises, Durbar Rajshahi and Dhaka Capitals stand out with the highest integrity flags at 12 each, followed by Sylhet Strikers (six) and Chittagong Kings (two).

The matches under investigation include encounters such as Fortune Barishal vs Rajshahi (January 6) and Rajshahi vs Rangpur (January 23). Suspicious incidents during these games include bowlers giving away successive wides, deliberately bowling no-balls, suspicious team selection, and slow batting in crucial chases.

BPL suffered recurring allegations of corruption since its inception in 2012. It happened during the 2013 edition when Bangladesh cricket icon Mohammad Ashraful confessed match fixing that got him eight years of ban.
