England fast bowler Mark Wood is set to see a specialist next week after sustaining a knee injury in the ongoing 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan. The 35-year-old injured himself during the fourth over of the Afghanistan innings on February 26 in Lahore.
While Wood made his return to bowl four additional overs in the innings, he seemingly looked in slight discomfort throughout his spell.
Mark Wood due for scans, surgery likely option
Mark Wood will have a scan after returning to England following the conclusion of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The speedster sustained a knee injury during England’s previous Group B match of the tournament against Afghanistan, where Jos Buttler’s troops fell to an eight-run defeat.
As reported by the BBC, Mark Wood might also have to undergo an operation for his knee in a bid to attain full recovery. However, in such a case, the 35-year-old fast bowler will be advised bed rest after the surgery, which might put him in doubt for England’s contention in their home Test series against Team India later this year.
Moreover, Mark Wood is also a crucial weapon in England’s pace armory for the upcoming away Ashes series in Australia.
