The first edition of the Delhi Premier League gifted the nation Priyansh Arya, who grabbed an IPL contract with PBKS and impressed with his aggressive and impactful batting. The second edition of the tournament has already started, and we can see plenty of players in action every day. While some of these players have featured in the IPL before and are looking to make a comeback with their show in this tournament, some rising stars are also trying to find a foothold in the IPL playground.
In the eighth match of the tournament, the New Delhi Tigers took on the East Delhi Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Notably, two stars who have already featured in the IPL were playing in this game. Here is a look at the performance of the star players.
Stars Failing To Impress
Navdeep Saini
The pacer who came to the limelight a few years back for his express pace was representing the East Delhi Riders in this game. The match did not go well for the right-arm fast bowler.
While bowling first in the game, Saini conceded 52 runs in four overs while picking up only a single wicket. Notably, Saini has been a part of the Indian Premier League from 2018 to 2024. During this period, he represented two franchises, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Rajasthan Royals. So, for the ex-Royal, the outing was not something with which he could impress the IPL franchises.
Anuj Rawat
Another ex-RCBian was playing for the East Delhi Riders. The captain and wicket-keeper of the team, Anuj Rawat. However, the outing did not go well for him either. With his team chasing 173 runs, Rawat managed to score only 16 runs from nine deliveries coming to bat at number four.
The southpaw was a part of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru till IPL 2024. However, ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction, he was released by the franchise and his services were acquired by the Gujarat Titans for ₹3.40 Cr.
Prince Yadav
Catching the limelight for his pace in IPL 2025, Prince Yadav was one of the stars to be watched out for in this tournament. However, the LSG pacer also failed to impress. Playing for the New Delhi Tigers, Yadav bowled four overs and conceded 34 runs in them, but failed to pick up a wicket. Notably, in the latest edition of the IPL, Prince was a part of the LSG team and played six matches for them. He picked up only three wickets in these games and had an economy rate of nearly 10.
New Star Grabbing The Attention Of IPL Franchises
While there were some disappointing shows from the established stars, some new names delivered a lot of promise during the game. One of these names was Arpit Rana for the East Delhi Riders.
The left-handed opening batter played a flamboyant knock of 63 runs from 44 deliveries. His innings was decorated with six fours and two maximums. The aggressive intent could be something that some of the IPL franchises are looking for. As a result, there is a chance that Arpit Rana might earn a contract during the IPL 2026 mini-auction.
