There is a popular saying that 'Truth is stranger than fiction'. If you have witnessed the latest series between India and England, and the last match of the series at the Oval, you will start believing it.

The India tour of England will go down in cricket's history book as one of the most competitive bilateral affairs in the purest format. Those who have witnessed the teams battle it out for 25 days will remember the affair for a long time to come.

While the series in itself was mesmerising, here is a look at some mind-blowing numbers that were achieved during the series -

Smallest Margin Of Win By Runs For India In Test Cricket

The final day of the Oval Test awaited a thrilling finish when the two teams walked out to the ground with England needing 35 runs to win the match and India needing 4 wickets.

As the two teams took the field, intense action panned out for about an hour. India conceded 28 runs but finally managed to snatch the win from the jaws of defeat.

With this, India recorded a Test win by just six runs, the smallest ever win margin by runs for them in the format.

Second Highest Aggregate Of Runs Scored In A Test Series

Before the Oval Test, it was a case of which was the better batting side in the competition. This led to 7,187 runs being scored in the series, which is only second to the 7,221 scored in the 1993 Ashes series played in England. Also, the 6,736 runs scored off the bat in this series are just 20 short of those scored in the 1993 series.

Most Matches In A 5-Match Test With First Innings Gap Less Than 30 Runs

During the India tour of England 2025, there were three instances where the gap between the two teams in the first innings was less than 30 runs. Only four other Test series have ever had such an occurrence, where the first innings gap between the two teams was less than 30 runs on three occasions.

Notably, the two teams had the exact total in the first innings of the Third Test in this series. It was the ninth instance in the history of the game that it happened.

Bowled Dismissals In A Series

The series ended with Gus Atkinson's stumps being massacred by Mohammed Siraj's yorker delivery. It was a fitting end to an affair that involved 45 wickets by the mode of dismissal in the whole series.

Notably, 45 bowleds are the highest in any Men's Test Series since 1984. It also sits at the top of the list when we consider Test matches played in England since 1974.

Number Of Days Played In A Series

One of the most talked about things in the series was the fact that every match in it went to its last day. While weather played a part in this, it is very rare, especially in modern cricket, to witness this.

The last time a five-match Test series witnessed all its games going to the previous day was the 2017/18 Ashes Series. It is also the fourth time in the 21st century that this has happened. The other two times that it occurred were the England tour of South Africa in 2004/05 and the South Africa tour of the West Indies in 2001.
