India’s out-of-favour wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan failed to make the most of his ‘India A’ opportunity in Australia as he was dismissed for a sluggish four by hosts’ six-wicket hauler Brendan Doggett. Batting at number six and arriving to the crease at 71-4 at Mackay’s Great Barrier Reef Arena, Ishan’s struggles lasted just 11 deliveries before he nicked one towards Josh Philippe off Doggett in the 32nd over of the day.

Out of national reckoning for a while, Ishan Kishan received a surprise call-up for India A’s two-match tour of Australia. Unfortunately, the dashing wicketkeeper-batter failed to make the most of his opportunity as he made just four runs against Australia A on a bouncy Great Barrier Reef surface on Day 1 of the match.

Ishan’s flashing edge in the 32nd over was safely pouched by Australia A stumper Josh Philippe as the India A number six batter became Brendan Doggett’s second victim of the innings.

India A eventually folded up for just 107 within 48 overs after a dramatic lower-order collapse initiated by Australia A quick Brendan Doggett. The visitors lost six of those runs for just 15 runs at one stage to slip from 71-3 to 86-9 in the post-lunch session. Tailenders Navdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar hung around a while to take India A past the 100-run mark with their 21-run partnership.

For Australia A, Brendan Doggett picked up a career-best six-wicket haul with figures of 6-15 from 11 overs. Apart from Ishan Kishan, the right-arm paceman also dismissed the likes of B Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal and Nitish Kumar Reddy for a six-ball duck to his tally of victims.

Meanwhile, for the visitors, Padikkal himself scored a third of India A’s runs by pumping out 36 of them from 77 balls. Sai Sudharsan and number nine Navdeep Saini were the only other batters to reach the double-digits with 21 and 23 runs respectively.
