The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has revealed a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies, set to begin on October 18 in Dhaka. Notably, Litton Das has not been included in the squad due to injury.
Litton suffered a side strain during a practice session at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai on September 22, just before the Asia Cup. While trying to play a square cut, he felt pain on the left side of his waist.
After being examined by team physio Bayzid ul Islam, he was immediately pulled out of training and later ruled out for the rest of the Asia Cup. Scans showed that he still needs more time to recover, so the team management decided not to risk his fitness for the West Indies series.
Soumya Sarkar returns for ODI series vs WI
In his absence, Bangladesh has recalled experienced opener Soumya Sarkar, who last played for the national team during the Champions Trophy in Dubai. His return marks a significant opportunity to prove himself again in the 50-over format.
Another exciting addition is Mahidul Islam Ankon, a wicketkeeper-batter who has been in strong domestic form. He has scored 3,429 runs in 90 List A matches at an average of 44.53, including four centuries and 28 half-centuries.
However, a few players from the previous series against Afghanistan, such as opener Naim Sheikh and fast bowler Nahid Rana, have been dropped from the lineup.
Bangladesh will be looking to bounce back strongly after a disappointing 3-0 series loss to Afghanistan in the UAE. Playing at home will give them a good chance to regain confidence before upcoming international fixtures.
The three ODIs will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on October 18, 21, and 23.
