In a major update, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has revealed its 16-member ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka, starting July 2 in Colombo. The team has gone through some big changes, with experienced players retiring and new faces getting a chance to prove themselves.

Litton Das And Mohammad Naim Make A Comeback

One of the biggest highlights is the return of Litton Das to the ODI squad after recovering from injury. Alongside him, Mohammad Naim, the left-handed opener, has been recalled after almost two years. Naim last played an ODI in 2023 and was rewarded for his recent good form in domestic cricket, where he scored 618 runs in 11 matches in the Dhaka Premier League.

The squad announcement also follows two major retirements, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim have both stepped away from ODI cricket. These changes have opened up space for some fresh faces in the team.

Meanwhile, the selectors surprised many by including Shamim Hossain, who has had limited success in ODIs. He has played just 4 matches, scoring only 16 runs, and didn’t perform well in the recent T20I series against Pakistan either. Still, he gets another chance.

On the other hand, Tanvir Islam, a left-arm spinner, and Parvez Hossain Emon, a promising batter, have also been included. Both are yet to debut in ODIs but have played T20Is for Bangladesh.

Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed is back in action after recovering from an injury. His return is a big boost for Bangladesh’s pace attack, which has looked weak in recent matches.

With regular captains stepping away, Mehidy Hasan Miraz will captain the side in ODIs for the first time. This is a big responsibility for the all-rounder as Bangladesh looks to rebuild its team.
