Cricket fans witnessed a heart-pounding finish in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025 as Dindigul Dragons pulled off a thrilling last-ball win against Salem Spartans on June 22.

The match turned into a dramatic rollercoaster in the final over, and it was mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy who turned hero by smashing a six and a four on the last two balls to snatch victory.

The Dragons needed 11 runs in the final over, and pressure was sky-high. Karthik Saran was dismissed after facing a dot ball. That left 11 to get from four balls. DT Chandrasekar managed to sneak a single, and then Chakravarthy took charge. He took two runs and then came the game-changing moment,  the bowler M Poiyamozhi bowled a no-ball.

With a free hit in hand and 8 runs needed from 2 balls, Chakravarthy smashed the ball over long-on for a massive six, bringing the game within touching distance. Needing just one off the final ball, he calmly drove it for a four, sealing the win for the Dragons by two wickets.

As the team rushed onto the field to celebrate, the cameras captured a touching moment in the dugout, Ravichandran Ashwin, sitting with teary eyes, was visibly emotional in a viral video.

Notably, Ashwin played a fiery knock of 35 runs off just 14 balls, giving the Dragons a flying start alongside Shivam Singh, who scored 34 off 24. Despite some quick wickets in the middle, contributions from Jayant (25 off 15), Hunny Saini (35 off 28), and Vimal Khumar kept the chase alive till the final over.

Even with the ball, Ashwin was equally impactful. He bowled his full quota of four overs, conceding just 22 runs and taking three important wickets, including Sunny Sandhu and Rajendra Vivek. However, Spartans’ Nidhish Rajagopal anchored the innings with a brilliant knock of 74 off 47 balls, helping the team post a strong total of 188/7.

With this win, the Dindigul Dragons secured third place on the TNPL 2025 points table, bringing them closer to the playoffs race.
