Liton Das achieves 1000 international runs in 2022, becomes the first batter to do so

Bangladesh batter Liton Das recorded a mammoth milepost on Friday (June 24) when he smashed 1000 international runs in 2022. While Bangladesh were up against the West Indies in an away Test fixture, Das scored a half-century and went past the 1000-run mark in the current calendar year.

Das, who sat at 996 international runs in 2022 before the match began, scored 70-ball 53 against a formidable Windies bowling outfit at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, St Lucia.

Overall, the Dinajpur-born has scored 4,628 runs in 135 international appearances.

Behind Das are UAE's Vriitya Aravind and the Pakistan skipper Babar Azam; both the cricketers have more than 900 international runs this year. Few others trailing in the run-tally are UAE's Chirag Suri, Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka and Usman Khawaja of Australia.

Speaking of the ongoing Test match between Bangladesh and West Indies, the visitors folded at 234 runs on Day 1 after they were put in to bat. Das, 27, emerged as the top-scorer with 53 runs. The fast-bowling duo of Jayden Seales and Alzarri Joseph took three wickets apiece, while Anderson Phillip and Kyle Mayers claimed two scalps each to bundle out the touring side.

West Indies had already scored 67 runs by the time day's play ended. Openers Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell are unbeaten at 30 and 32 runs, respectively.
