‘I am not worried about the past performance of Nathan Lyon’ : Dimuth Karunaratne

After sealing a wholesome Test series win against Bangladesh, Dimuth Karunaratne and his side would be up against the Aussies in the upcoming two-match Test series, which is scheduled from June 29, with both the matches being played in Galle International Stadium.

With their recent win against Bangladesh and the ongoing economic and government crisis in Sri Lanka, Karunaratne believes that during these tough times, this win could give some joy to the Sri Lankans.

He stated, "We knew all the Sri Lankans are in a bit of trouble and going through a tough period, so we thought we could give some joy to them. Hopefully, we can continue like this in the next few series as well."

Currently, the Sri Lankan team is under the guidance of Chris Silverwood, and the skipper believes that he is a good, calm and composed coach.

"I can't say many things about Chris Silverwood right now because this was his first series (against Bangladesh), and so I am also observing him, how he handles the pressure and how he controls the team and what is his expectation. It's too early to say about him.

"But I feel right now that he is a good coach and a calm person. He is behaving like a father to us, and we have to learn a lot of things from him as he has worked with a big team previously. He is also trying to get to know each other, and see how our behaviour is and how is our culture. When we play the next two series, I think we can get a clear idea about him." stated Karunaratne to Cricbuzz.

When asked whether the Aussie set-spinner, Nathan Lyon, could be a threat to their team, he believes that their previous records shouldn't be a matter of concern, as one must have to get control over the game from the first session itself.

"I am not worried about the past performance of Nathan Lyon, because when you go out there when you play the Test match... the first session, you have to try and get control over the game and I believe that. So I don't worry about what happened previously.

"I am not worried about things like, this time they will get wickets, and it will turn like this or turn like that, so it doesn't matter for me. I will just go out there play, enjoy, and try to score runs. When we are bowling, try to get the wickets; that is the only thing I am worried about."
