Former cricketer Brian Lara believes India and West Indies will be making it into the finals of the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup in June. The former West Indies captain cited poetic influences behind his prediction by recalling the memories of the 2007 ODI World Cup hosted by the Caribbean.

Currently in India as part of the commentary panel for the IPL 2024 season, Lara also lend his insights by predicting the other two semifinalists of the tournament.

Brian Lara predicts an India vs WI T20 WC 2024 final

Brian Lara believes the present West Indies cricket team has the potential to reach the final of the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup in June. The cricketer-turned-commentator said that the team, set to be commanded by Rovman Powell, features a number of talented individuals who can perform well in unison.

Moreover, Lara added that Team India can also reach the final and a potential title clash between the ‘Men in Blue’ and the tournament co-host will “make up” for the errors of the 2007 ODI World Cup in the Caribbean. As per the legendary batter, India’s first-round exit as well as West Indies’ failure to qualify for the semifinals “killed” the hype of the tournament back in 2007.

“The West Indies should do well. They have a lot of individual stars and when they come together as a team they do well. India, with all their cry over selection, they find themselves in the top four. India and West Indies final is going to make up for so much wrong that has happened in the past. India missing out in 2007 in second round, that killed us in the Caribbean. We don’t want that to happen again. So, India and West Indies in the final and may the best team win.”

Brian Lara further elaborated his prediction by claiming that tournament dark horses Afghanistan and defending champions England are capable of qualifying for the semi-finals.

The T20 World Cup 2024 will launch with a Group A game between Canada and co-hosts USA on June 1 in Texas. As many as 20 teams are participating in the month-long event, where all competing nations will be spread across four different groups.
