The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise secured a top-two finish for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoffs after their away match against Gujarat Titans (GT) was called off due to rains.

The Titans, on the other hand, have been eliminated from the tournament’s playoffs race owing to the rain-soddened affair.

So far in IPL 2024, the Shreyas Iyer-led KKR group has registered nine wins from 13 league games to be placed at the top of the 10-team points table.

The KKR franchise were slated to take field at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on May 13 to face Gujarat Titans with a trail of four successive wins to their credit.

However, the highly-anticipated contest was abandoned without a ball being bowled owing to ceaseless rains at the iconic venue.

The outcome resulted in KKR confirming a top-two finish on the league stage points table, thus setting up a date for themselves for the first qualifier in the playoffs.

Prior to the playoffs, Shreyas Iyer and co. will be going up against Rajasthan Royals (RR) to conclude their preliminary set of matches.

The much-awaited contest will be played in Guwahati on May 19. The team will subsequently return back to Ahmedabad for Qualifier 1, set to be staged on May 21.

The Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, has joined Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings to become the third team of the IPL 2024 season to get knocked out from the playoffs race.

They will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad at the latter’s home ground in Hyderabad on May 16.
