Cricket Australia is trying to beat the clock and the competition. This year, they have brought the BBL 2025 Draft two months ahead of schedule, locking in Thursday, June 19 as D-Day.

This is because they want to rope in top overseas talent before other T20 leagues poach them. With the SA20 and ILT20 often clashing with the Big Bash, players have been hesitant to commit. But with this early bird approach, CA is hoping the big names come knocking.

BBL 2025 Draft Order Revealed

The weighted lottery was back in action and Brisbane Heat came out all guns blazing, nabbing the first pick. The Strikers, despite having the best odds (40%) of landing pick 1, had to settle for second. The Renegades and Scorchers followed suit.

Finalists were thrown into a second lottery pool. The reigning champs Hobart Hurricanes pulled off a stunner as they claimed pick No.5 despite just a 10% chance. Here is how the full draft order looks:

  1. Brisbane Heat
  2. Adelaide Strikers
  3. Melbourne Renegades
  4. Perth Scorchers
  5. Hobart Hurricanes
  6. Sydney Sixers
  7. Melbourne Stars
  8. Sydney Thunder

Snake Format In Play

From the second round onwards, the BBL Draft follows a snake format. That means the Thunder, who pick last in round one, will go first in round two. And so on.

Direct Overseas Player Signings

  • Brisbane Heat: Colin Munro
  • Hobart Hurricanes: Chris Jordan
  • Melbourne Renegades: Tim Seifert
  • Melbourne Stars: Tom Curran
  • Perth Scorchers: Finn Allen

BBL Draft Salary Bands

  • Platinum: AU$360k-420k
  • Gold: AU$300k
  • Silver: AU$200k

With the draft now in June, players can make informed decisions before signing with other leagues. That means more full-season commitments, fewer mid-season exits, and a stronger BBL.
