Rishabh Pant never misses a chance to drop a witty one-liner and this time, the target was none other than India’s former Test skipper Rohit Sharma. As Team India left for England on June 5 for the five-match Test series starting June 20, fans gathered at the airport hoping to catch a glimpse of their favourite stars but one curious fan had a question: “Where is Rohit Sharma?”

Pant, with a grin on his face and his usual mischief intact, quipped, “Wo garden me ghoom rahe hai” which was a cheeky reference to Rohit’s famous dialogue from a viral video.

The crowd erupted in laughter. When asked if he'd miss the garden, Pant responded, “Of course, I’ll miss it.”

With Rohit Sharma officially retiring from Test cricket, the baton has been passed to the next-gen duo of Shubman Gill as captain and Pant as vice-captain. The duo now has the task of steering India through a brand-new chapter post the Kohli-Rohit era.

Rohit Sharma Test Career

Rohit’s red-ball career, though short in leadership span, was decorated. He racked up 4301 runs from 67 matches, slammed 12 tons, all in winning causes and smashed 88 sixes, only behind Sehwag’s 91 among Indians.

In IPL 2025, Rohit proved he still has gas in the tank, ending as Mumbai Indians’ second-highest run-getter with 418 runs at a strike rate of 149.28, including four fifties.

As India gears up to face England in what promises to be a spicy Test series, fans will miss seeing Rohit open the innings. But with Pant’s comeback, Gill’s rise and a young squad ready to prove a point, the garden is still very much blooming, just with a different set of flowers now.
