Munna Singh, father of India’s Women’s World Cup-winning fast bowler Kranti Gaud, has finally been reinstated into the Madhya Pradesh Police nearly 14 years after his dismissal. Singh, who had served as a constable, was suspended in 2012 over alleged negligence during election duty.

The reinstatement order was issued by the state police headquarters on Monday following intervention from Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.

During a felicitation ceremony for Kranti in 2025, CM Yadav had promised to resolve her father’s long-pending case.

Back in 2012, Munna Singh was suspended for lapses in election duty. His suspension left the family in a serious financial crisis.

However, the case has now been resolved. Madhya Pradesh Sports Minister Vishwas Sarang described the move as a gesture of respect and support for athletes and their families.

"This decision not only brings relief to the family but also serves as a clear example of the government's sensitivity, respect for athletes, and fair approach. This decision has not only provided economic and social support to Gaud's family but has also fulfilled Kranti's dream of seeing her father retire with honour in a police uniform,” Sarang told PTI.

Struggles that shaped a champion

Kranti Gaud grew up in Ghuwara village in Chhatarpur district, witnessing her family’s hardships after her father’s suspension.

Singh’s removal from service plunged the family into financial uncertainty, and Kranti often recalled periods when they struggled even for a single meal.

Despite such difficulties, Kranti was determined to follow her passion for cricket. Her hard work led to India winning their first Women’s World Cup in November 2025.

She finished among the top wicket-takers in the tournament for India and became one of the standout performers of the campaign.

The success on the field brought attention to her family’s story, and Kranti openly spoke about her father’s long struggle, which helped generate public and political support for his reinstatement.

Road ahead for Kranti Gaud

After the World Cup glory, Kranti Gaud will resume her on-field duties. She will represent UP Warriorz in the WPL 2026, starting January 9, after being retained for Rs 50 lakh.

She also featured in India’s recently concluded T20I series against Sri Lanka, where India won 5-0, and is expected to be part of the upcoming T20 World Cup campaign.

With her father’s reinstatement, Kranti now has one less worry off the field, allowing her to focus entirely on her cricketing career.
