In a major crackdown on black-marketing ahead of the high-octane India versus South Africa World Cup 2023 clash that is slated to be played on November 5 at Eden Gardens, the Kolkata police arrested a man on Tuesday for selling match tickets at extortionate prices.

Illegal sale of IND vs SA tickets lands man behind bars

The upcoming face-off between the cricketing giants is anticipated to be one of the most electrifying matches of the tournament, and ticket prices have soared in response to the high demand.

The arrested suspect was found in possession of 20 match tickets, each with a face value of Rs. 2,500. However, exploiting the intense craze surrounding the much-awaited match, he was attempting to sell these tickets for a staggering Rs. 11,000 each. This illegal markup is more than four times the original price.

Meanwhile, the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, which has witnessed numerous epic battles in cricketing history, will once again play host to the India vs. South Africa game.

Given the current form and performance of both teams, fans are gearing up for a thrilling encounter.

India, led by Rohit Sharma, remains unbeaten in the tournament, occupying the top spot on the points table with an impressive net run rate (NRR) of 1.405.

On the other hand, South Africa, while showcasing commendable performances, suffered a lone defeat against the Netherlands. Their exceptional net run rate of 2.032 is proof of their dominant performance.

Temba Bavuma and his team will be driven by the ambition of reaching their maiden World Cup final, and their batting brilliance has made them a force to reckon with in the championship.

However, India, with its balanced attack of bat and ball, has showcased clinical performances. Rohit, with 398 runs under his belt, and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, with 14 wickets, have been the standout performers for the Men in Blue.
