In what promises to be a cricketing spectacle, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to be a star attendee at the India vs South Africa World Cup 2023 match at Eden Gardens on November 5.

The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has rolled out the red carpet, extending a formal invitation to Shah, who besides his political stature, is known for his support for the Indian team.

The stakes for this encounter have skyrocketed, not just due to the intense on-field rivalry, but also as it dovetails with the 35th birthday of Indian stalwart, Virat Kohli. In Kohli's honour, CAB has curated a series of celebratory gestures. The standout being the distribution of 70,000 face masks of Kohli which is set to create an unforgettable sight with a sea of spectators wearing them.

But the festivities don't end there. Kohli will be treated to a grand cake-cutting ceremony, complemented by a magnificent laser show and a bespoke gift, underlining his significant contributions to the sport and Indian cricket.

It is worth mentioning that while the initial invitation to film legend Amitabh Bachchan was met with regret due to health considerations, the entertainment quotient remains undiminished. Popular singer Shilpa Rao will enthrall the audience, ensuring the energy in the stadium remains electric.

Eden Gardens, with its excellent capacity of 66,000, has seen tickets fly off the shelves. Many fans, unfortunately, will have to contend with missing out. The IND vs SA battle, both on and off the pitch, is gearing up to be one of the most memorable chapters of the ICC World Cup 2023.
