The Shah Rukh Khan-owned Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been struggling with the missing of their regular skipper Shreyas Iyer who suffered an injury earlier and couldn't recover on time and later, it was revealed that he will undergo the knife in a bid to be fully fit by the World Cup later this year.

Hence, he was completely ruled out from this edition of the IPL and in his absence, batter Nitish Rana was handed the reins to lead the side for the entire season.

However, in the meantime, the backing out of Shakib Al Hasan was another setback to which they called Jason Roy into the setup.

Now, the Kolkata-based side has announced the Gujarat batter Aarya Desai as the replacement for the Indian batter. This was revealed after the official media release from IPL stated:

"Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday brought Aarya Desai on board for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Desai represents Gujarat in domestic cricket, has played 3 First-Class matches and has 151 runs against his name. He joins KKR for INR 20 Lakh."

Talking about the standings, KKR are fourth placed as of now with two wins in three games. Currently, they are facing SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) at their home Eden Gardens.
