Veteran Indian leg-spinner and commentator Piyush Chawla recently revealed his all-time Indian Premier League (IPL) XI, during a podcast aired on 13 September. Chawla, who has been a prominent figure in Indian cricket, selected Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the captain of his dream team. Along with Dhoni, legends such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also found a place in his team.
Piyush Chawla chose Indian batting stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to open in his all-time IPL XI. Both players have been pivotal in shaping the tournament’s history. Kohli, the highest run-scorer in IPL history with over 8,000 runs, and Rohit, the third-highest run-getter, have left an indelible mark on the league. Rohit has also led the Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles, making him the most successful captain in IPL history.
Suryakumar Yadav, regarded as one of the best T20 batters currently, was picked by Chawla for the No. 3 position. His consistency over the last few seasons with Mumbai Indians has been remarkable. At No. 4, MS Dhoni, widely considered a cricketing legend, was a no-brainer for Chawla. Dhoni’s leadership, coupled with his 5,243 runs and stellar wicketkeeping record, makes him a pillar in Chawla’s team.
Overseas Power: Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers
For overseas players, Chawla chose the explosive duo of Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. Both players have been immensely impactful in IPL, with Gayle known for his power-hitting and de Villiers for his 360-degree batting style. Their inclusion in the team was expected, given their massive contribution to the league.
Piyush Chawla completed his team with a strong bowling lineup, featuring Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga, West Indian Sunil Narine, and India’s Jasprit Bumrah. Malinga’s yorkers, Narine’s spin, and Bumrah’s pace have made them formidable forces in IPL history.
