On the verge of concluding his rehab from a quadriceps pain endured since late January at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), experienced Indian batter KL Rahul will be joining his IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) camp "in the next two days", reported Cricbuzz.

The LSG captain, who is expected to don a new role in the middle-order as his team's premier wicketkeeper-batter to push for a T20 World Cup 2024 slot, has been out of cricket since the first Test against England but is now approved for a comeback by NCA ahead of LSG's first game.

Rahul was initially expected to join the Lucknow franchise set-up on March 20 before they travel to Jaipur for their first game on Sunday (March 24) against the Rajasthan Royals (RR).

But the report suggested he will only relink with the squad a day later when a special captain's conclave is organised in Chennai.

"He will be very much available from the first game of the season," a source privy to the developments within the LSG franchise told Cricbuzz, with the cricketer now on board for a comeback to playing duties following a period of frustration with his untimely injury.

Rahul's injury occurred after playing a terrific first-innings knock of 86 in the first Test in Hyderabad, which was a follow-up innings on the remarkable century on his Test comeback in the preceding series in South Africa.

Just when he expected to maximise his form, however, quad pain rained on the cricketer's parade and he was subsequently ruled of the next four Tests of the five-match series versus the tourists.

Rahul had travelled to London to consult a specialist and comeback to resume his rehab at the NCA, where the physios and medical staff cleared him last week. The IPL 2024 is thus the 31-year-old's comeback assignment.
