Perth will play host to the opening Test of India's marquee tour of Australia for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, reported Australia-based 'The Age', as the two great arch-rivals extend their rivalry with another high-intense Test series.

Team India will be contesting a five-match Test series against Australia for the first time since the nation's 1991-92 tour against Kangaroos, with the historic series being part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle

The iconic Adelaide Oval will play host to the second Test of the series as the venue reattains the season's traditional D/N Test it missed out on for the recently concluded summer when the pink-ball fixture was instead held in Brisbane against the West Indies, who famously defeated the hosts

Unlike the 2020-21 Indian trip, when it hosted the final Test of the four-match series, the Gabba will be hosting the third Test of the high-octane rubber before the two teams move to the MCG for the Boxing Day Test and the SCG for the New Year's Test in January 2025.

The final dates and schedule for India's tour of Australia are expected to be announced officially in the coming days by Cricket Australia (CA) following discussions with the BCCI.

Rohit Sharma-led tourists would hope for an itinerary that involves landing in Australia well before the first Test to ensure the best possible preparations and adjustment to the challenging conditions.

It remains to be seen if India would consider playing warm-up games at the start of the tour. However, the BCCI has tended to arrange shadow trips for India A in recent years whenever the senior team has travelled overseas, an idea likely to be replicated for the Australian trip.

India have been the most successful touring team to Australia in the last decade, winning the previous two away iterations of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2018-19 and 2020-21 with a 2-1 scoreline. The Asian giants hold the coveted BGT crown, having not faced a series defeat against the arch-rivals since their 2014-15 loss.
