The BCCI has named KL Rahul as India captain for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa. Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood will reportedly miss the remainder of the 2025-26 Ashes series. In other news, Shubman Gill will likely check in to the BCCI CoE before the T20I series next month.
Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Sunday, November 23.
KL Rahul to lead India in ODI series vs South Africa
KL Rahul is set to lead the Indian team in the absence of injured Shubman Gill in the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa. Former captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were also included in the 15-player squad after their 50-overs heroics in Australia. Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson was one of the major absentees, while fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have been rested from the series.
Apart from Shubman Gill, fellow injured players like Hardik Pandya and Shreyas Iyer were also sidelined from the squad.
Shubman Gill to hit BCCI CoE before SA T20I series
India Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill will reportedly check himself into the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) for further rehabilitation ahead of the upcoming T20I series against South Africa. Earlier this month, the cricketer suffered neck spasm on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test, which subsequently ruled him out of the remainder of the Test series as well as from the ODI series.
Currently in race against time to attain full recovery, Shubman Gill has been advised rest by a spine specialist in Mumbai, and he is expected to visit the CoE on either December 1 or December 2.
Josh Hazlewood likely to miss entire 2025 Ashes: Report
In a major development, legendary Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood will likely miss the entirety of the ongoing 2025-26 Ashes series against England. Hazlewood was already ruled out of the series-opener owing to the hamstring injury he suffered earlier this month during a 2025 Sheffield Shield match.
According to a report from veteran cricket reporter Peter Lalor, Hazlewood’s injury concerns may be more serious than Cricket Australia (CA) publicly confirmed, and he might miss the remaining four Tests if the “worst comes to fruition”.
India Women win Blind World Cup 2025
The Indian Blind women’s team won the 2025 Blind Women’s World Cup by defeating Nepal with a seven-wicket margin in the final. Phula Saren delivered the ‘Player of the Match’ performance by scoring 44* from just 27 balls with four boundaries to help India chase down Nepal’s 114-5 in just 12.1 overs, i.e., with 47 balls to spare.
Karuna K at number three also chipped in with a cracking 42 off 27 balls as she shared a match-defining 51-run partnership with Saren after the Indian women’s blind team had lost both openers early in the innings.
Usman Tariq collects a hat-trick as Pakistan trash ZIM in tri-series
Pakistan off-spinner Usman Tariq picked up a stunning hat-trick against Zimbabwe in match number four of the 2025 Pakistan T20I tri-series. Playing just the second match of his international career, Tariq dismissed Tony Munyonga, Tashinga Musekiwa and Wellington Masakadza to become only the fourth Pakistani cricketer in history to snare a T20I hat-trick, joining the likes of Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Hasnain and active teammate Mohammad Nawaz.
He eventually claimed figures of 4-18 as his spell, coupled with fifties from Babar Azam and Sahibzada Farhan helped Pakistan crush Zimbabwe by 69 runs.
