Pakistan Shaheens secured a thrilling Super Over win over their Bangladeshi counterparts in the final to lift the 2025 Asia Cup Rising Stars title. Saad Masood’s clean ball-striking and Sufiyan Muqeem’s left-arm trickery proved the twin forces for the victorious Pakistani team in Doha.
Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the final of the 2025 Asia Cup Rising Stars between Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh A, as it panned out at the West End Park International Cricket Stadium in Doha on Sunday, November 23.
Saad Masood explodes to take PAK to 125 after Rakibul’s tight spell
Pakistan Shaheens got off to a nightmare start by losing opener Yasir Khan for a first-ball duck to a run out. Mohammad Faiq at number three also got knocked over by SM Meherob for a two-ball duck as Pakistan slipped to 2-2 early in the game.
Maaz Sadaqat (23 off 18) and Arafat Minhas (25 off 23) chipped in with valiant 20s to keep Pakistan’s scoreboard ticking, but constant wickets from Rakibul Hasan (2-16), Jishan Alam (1-9) and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain (1-27) kept Bangladesh on top.
Saad Masood exploded at the death with a quick 26-ball 38, but a three-wicket burst from Ripon Mondol in the space of just four deliveries helped Bangladesh A enveloped Pakistan Shaheens for just 125 in 20 overs.
Sufiyan Muqeem, Arafat Minhas survive Bangladesh A scare
Even though Habibur Rahman Sohan started off the run-chase with a fiery 17-ball 26 at the top, Bangladesh A crashed to 53-7 around the halfway stage of the innings. Left-arm spinners Arafat Minhas (2-5) and Sufiyan Muqeem (3-11) frolicked through Bangladesh’s top and middle-order by claiming five wickets between them, while Saad Masood and Maaz Sadaqat chipped in with a wicket each.
SM Meherob (19 off 21) and Rakibul Hasan (24 off 21) led Bangladesh A’s counterattack with a swift 37-run partnership before twin strikes from Ahmed Daniyal (2-11) left them reeling at 96-9. Still 30 runs away from victory in the remaining 16 balls, tailenders Abdul Gaffar Saqlain (16* off 12) and Ripon Mondol (11* off 9) struck some timely sixes to bring the match to a thrilling tie.
Pakistan Shaheens, however, won the resultant Super Over without breaking a sweat to lift the 2025 Asia Cup Rising Stars trophy.
