Indian cricket giant Virat Kohli made his return to Ranji Trophy after a gap of over a decade, as the legendary batter bids to regain his lost touch with the bat. As Team India braces itself for the upcoming 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, several of Kohli’s tournament teammates also took fields for their respective Ranji Trophy teams on Thursday, January 30.

Here we take a look at how each of them fared in their respective Ranji Trophy outings at the end of Day 1.

KL Rahul fails again after Australia horror

Indian top-order batter KL Rahul, who underwent a horrid Test series in Australia earlier this month, made his return to Karnataka team for their Elite Group C match against Haryana in Bengaluru. Batting at number three, the cricketer made his way into the middle in the 21st over of the day following the dismissal of opening batter KV Avneesh.

Rahul bided his time at the crease with captain Mayank Agarwal as the two senior pros shared 53 runs for the second wicket. The 32-year-old belted four elegant boundaries during his stay but his confident start got abrupted by Haryana fast bowler Anshul Kamboj after reaching 26 from 37 balls.

Kuldeep Yadav grinds out for Uttar Pradesh on difficult day

Selected as one of the four specialist spinners in the Indian team for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Kuldeep Yadav picked up Uttar Pradesh’s lone wicket of the opening day against Madhya Pradesh at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. The senior Indian spinner toiled away for 17 overs, and picked up the wicket of Madhya Pradesh’s well-set opener Himanshu Mantri at 52.

With Madhya Pradesh reaching 335-1 by stumps, Yadav’s bowling figures read 1-72 from an industrious 17-over workload.

Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja did not bat on Day 1

While Virat Kohli made his return to domestic cricket, and national teammate Ravindra Jadeja continued his Saurashtra obligation, neither of the two cricketers received a crack at any aspect of the game on Day 1 of the latest Ranji Trophy round.

Kohli, however, did managed to pull in a huge crowd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, and will be expected to bat at some point during the morning session of Day 2.
