Australian women continue to tower over their English counterparts in the 2025 Ashes after sealing the T20I and ODI series with 3-0 margins. Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, fast bowler Kim Garth struck with the new ball before younger pace mate Darcie Brown trapped England opener Tammy Beaumont in front of stumps for just eight within the first hour of play.
Middle-order batters Nat Sciver-Brunt and Sophia Dunkley resurrected England’s faltering innings to some extent, with the latter occupying the crease for 71 deliveries to score 21 cautious runs. However, Dunkley had her confident start squandered away as she chipped one back to Australian spinner Alana King at the stroke of team’s 100-run total.
Alana King disrupts English momentum with prized scalp
Australian leg-spinner Alana King had England’s well-set middle-order batter Sophia Dunkley out caught-and-bowled in the 39th over of the innings and in the seventh over of her hour-long spell.
King flighted the delivery to end England’s substantial fourth-wicket stand between Nat Sciver-Brunt and Dunkley worth 50 runs from more than 22 overs as the visitors reached 97-4 just before the drinks break.
Earlier in the match, English opener Maia Bouchier nicked one towards Australian wicketkeeper Beth Mooney off Kim Garth in the first over of the day. Darcie Brown accounted for Bouchier’s opening partner Tammy Beaumont a few overs later, before Garth dismissed England’s well-set captain and number three batter Heather Knight for 25.
It is worth noting that the Australian women’s team had already retained the Ashes by winning the first T20I of England’s tour, and officially won the 2025 title by winning the second T20I. With wins in each of the three ODIs and three T20Is so far, the hosts are leading the 2025 Women’s Ashes series by a 12-0 margin (2 points for a LOI game).
