The Kolkata Knight Riders finished the IPL 2024 as the champions. It was a trophy drought that they ended after 10 years. The management made some major changes in their dynamics after the season and tried to chalk out a new roadmap for their title defence journey.

However, as it stands, the defending champions are suffering from injury problems to a few key players and might have to re-strategise ahead of the IPL 2025. 

Here are 3 KKR players who are nursing minor to major injuries about a couple of months ahead of the tournament's next edition.

3. Anrich Nortje

During the IPL 2025 mega auction, Anrich Nortje was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹6.50 Cr. The pacer could have formed a key part of the team's pace department during the tournament and in their journey to defend the title.

However, Anrich Nortje has picked up a back injury and has been ruled out of the ongoing SA20 and the upcoming Champions Trophy. The availability scenario of the player for the IPL 2025 edition is still in doubt, and there is not much clarity in this respect yet.

2. Venkatesh Iyer

During the latest Ranji Trophy match, Venkatesh Iyer was seen getting retired hurt for three runs after he twisted his ankle. Notably, the left-handed batter was Kolkata's highest-paid cricketer during the IPL 2025 mega auction. He was bought for a hefty sum of ₹23.75 Cr and was one of the key players in the KKR core. 

If Venkatesh Iyer is not able to play in the next edition of the tournament, then it could be a huge setback for the defending champions. However, Iyer batted later on, and it seems the injury is not too serious at the moment.

1. Rinku Singh

The latest addition to the list of KKR stars getting injured is their middle-order batter and one of their leading finishers, Rinku Singh. As per the latest reports, Rinku Singh has been ruled out of the second and third T20I of the ongoing England series due to a lower back spasm.

The severity of the injury is still not known, and it is expected that he will be fit by the time the tournament starts. However, KKR will await the latest reports and look to take steps regarding the star based on those.

Conclusion

Kolkata Knight Riders will be looking to maintain their title-winning run. However, their plans might suffer a setback with the new injury scare of some key players they are facing. It is expected that Rinku and Venkatesh will comeback before the start of the IPL 2025, but the availability of Anrich Nortje is covered in clouds.
