Fresh after being sacked from his role as India’s assistant coach, the seasoned all-rounder is all set for a brand-new innings. Come the T20 Mumbai League Season 3, Nayar will don the mentor’s hat for the brand-new franchise, Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals.
It’s been a bit of a mixed year for Abhishek Nayar. After serving under Gautam Gambhir during India's victorious Champions Trophy campaign, he was part of a backroom shake-up post India's rough 1-3 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Along with fielding coach T Dilip and strength coach Soham Desai, Nayar found himself on the chopping block as BCCI decided to ring in the changes.

But cricket never leaves you in the lurch for too long. Abhishek Nayar quickly found his feet again, joining the Kolkata Knight Riders' think-tank in IPL 2025 and now, he is ready to take his experience to Mumbai’s buzzing T20 scene.
As reported by Times of India journalist Gaurav Gupta, Abhishek Nayar has been roped in as the mentor for Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals, one of the two new teams entering the T20 Mumbai League Season 3.
The official announcement is expected to drop next week but the buzz is already doing the rounds. Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals will be hoping that Nayar’s calm head and years of domestic and IPL experience will be the secret sauce they need to make a splash in their debut season.
Paras Mhambrey Joins ARCS Andheri as Head Coach
It’s not just Nayar making headlines. Former India pacer and ex-bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has also taken up a new role. He has signed up as the head coach of ARCS Andheri, another team heading into the Mumbai T20 carnival.
Mhambrey, who is currently part of the Mumbai Indians coaching set-up, brings a mountain of experience and a no-nonsense attitude that could turn ARCS into serious title contenders.
T20 Mumbai League Gets A Grand Stage At Wankhede
The entire third season of the T20 Mumbai League will be played at the Wankhede Stadium from May 26 to June 8. The Mumbai Cricket Association has pulled out all the stops to bring the league back bigger and better after a gap.
With India captain Rohit Sharma officially unveiled as the face of Season 3, expect a lot more eyeballs, star value and competitive cricket under the bright lights of Wankhede.
Notably, the T20 Mumbai League has two new entrants: the SoBo Mumbai Falcons and the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals.
