Indian captain Rohit Sharma roared back into form for the Mumbai Indians franchise this IPL 2025 season by plundering a match-winning 45-ball 76* against CSK at the Wankhede Stadium a few days ago. The legendary Indian opener also belted 76 runs against New Zealand in Dubai last month to headline India’s 2025 ICC Champions Trophy win before undergoing a form slump in IPL.

Following his match-winning knock against the CSK, Sharma took to his Instagram account and thanked Indian batting coach, Abhishek Nayar. Notably, Sharma’s gesture for Nayar occurred just a couple of days after the former Indian cricketer was removed from his management role by the BCCI.

Rohit Sharma not consulted over Nayar’s removal

As per a report from Dainik Jagran, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was not consulted by the BCCI over the sacking of Abhishek Nayar as India’s batting coach. However, Nayar’s entry into the Indian team management was done with the consent of the Indian captain back in mid-2024, i.e., shortly after the conclusion of the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.

Rohit Sharma’s appreciation post for Abhishek Nayar on social media, following his return to form this IPL 2025 season, clearly indicates that not all members of the Indian team and the management are on the same page.

Nonetheless, the report further stated that Abhishek Nayar was removed by the BCCI owing to India’s disastrous performance with the bat during the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against Australia ‘Down Under’ in late 2024 and early 2025. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah, India went on to lose the five-match series by a 1-3 margin.

After getting sacked by the BCCI, Nayar has now re-joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) franchise as team’s assistant coach for the ongoing IPL 2025 season.
