Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have signed Shivam Shukla, a mystery spinner from Madhya Pradesh, to play the rest of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He has replaced West Indies player Rovman Powell, who didn’t come back to India after the tournament resumed on May 17.
However, Shukla will only play one match for KKR this season because the team has already been knocked out of the competition. Their last game is against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday, May 25, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Who Is Shivam Shukla?
Shivam Shukla, who is 29 years old, made his T20 debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In eight matches, he took eight wickets with a good economy rate of 6.30. His best performance was taking four wickets for 29 runs in four overs against Bengal.
Before joining KKR, Shukla was a net bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad and was the top wicket-taker in the MP T20 League while playing for the Rewa Jaguars. Although KKR already has strong spinners like Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, they might give Shukla a chance to make his debut since they are already out of the tournament.
KKR Failed To Qualify For IPL Playoffs
KKR currently sits sixth on the points table with 12 points from 13 games. They started the season with a loss to RCB and struggled to build momentum. Even though they won back-to-back games against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR), a close defeat to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hurt their chances of making it to the next round.
Unfortunately, KKR’s hopes officially ended when their match against RCB was abandoned without a single ball being bowled. Now, they are looking to finish the season with a win against SRH.
